About Yoga for Grief: This 8 week course is designed to help your body recover from stress caused by grief & loss while providing you with peer support in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The program uses gentle movement, guided relaxation and expressive arts, such as collage and journaling, to help you manage the changes you are experiencing in your life and in your body. You will be given the opportunity to speak and be heard through group discussion and personal self-observation along with structured homework exercises. This is a closed group - participants will be admitted up to the second meeting. No "Right" Way: Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace both physically and emotionally. There are many ways to grieve and mourn, and no two people do it exactly the same way. Respect for individual differences is a hallmark of this class. Course Format: The group will meet for approximately 1 ½ hours each week for 8 weeks. Each week we will practice yoga, meditation, and have time for a group discussion. Who Will Benefit: If you feel your body, mind and spirit are experiencing stress from grief, then you will more than likely benefit from gentle stretching, relaxation, and group support. People with no yoga experience are welcome: If you already practice yoga, then turning to yoga in hard times may come naturally to you. If you have never experienced this powerful healing practice, you may find the benefits of yoga to be indispensable. The gentle yoga in this group will accommodate any fitness level. Previous yoga experience is not required, and your own spiritual beliefs are welcome and respected. Materials Included: You will receive an audio CD for home practice, as well as a manual with journaling and other mindfulness-based activities to help foster healing and growth. Cost: $250: Yoga for Grief is a 19 hour program that includes eight 1.5 hour meetings, which may include yoga, meditation, relaxation, expressive arts & group discussion, one day-long retreat, and Heather's audio CD.
